Nora, the Aristotelian Tragic Hero - 800 Words

Dan Tamulonis Mrs. Munn English 11H 28 November 2011 Nora, the Aristotelian Tragic Hero Along with many great theories, Aristotle left the world with his own set of guidelines to defining the tragic hero. Many protagonists have been put through his test and been placed as tragic heroes or just heroes, but where they truly belong is up for debate. In A Doll’s House, by Henrik Ibsen, many characters could be put through the rigors of an examination based on Aristotle’s qualifications. According to Aristotle, Nora Helmer, the play’s protagonist, is a tragic hero, because her character traits are perfect examples of what contributes to a tragic hero. As defined by Aristotle, a tragic hero must be of noble stature and radiate greatness.†¦show more content†¦Linde then brags about how successful her life has been so far and then distances their lives by stating that she has three children, when earlier it was revealed that Mrs. Linde has none. This rudeness is a major flaw in Nora’s make up as a character . Her vainness is definitely her tragic flaw because it eventually leads to Krogstad blackmailing her, which becomes worse when Torvald finds out. She wants to go to Italy so she takes out a loan from Krogstad without thinking about the consequences. Her incapability to look at the picture leads to unpleasant events in the future. According to Aristotle, the tragic hero must suffer misfortune due to their tragic flaw. Nora is does not differ from this aspect. Instead, she is insulted to the highest degree by Torvald. When he hears about the actions Nora has taken behind his back he is furious. Not just because it was done behind his back, but because it looks bad in the view of public. In Torvalds’ eyes, this is the worst that could happen. As a result, he tries to make her feel isolated, â€Å"But I shall not allow you to bring up the children; I dare not / trust them to you† (III, 72). The degree of misfortune that falls upon Nora is almost unimaginable. To threaten a wife with the separation from her kids is something that should never be done. Nothing calls for this harsh of a punishment. Nora does not deserve this, but it teaches her that this is not the life for her. All novels, books or articles have what is called a Kairos, most readers do not try to discover the kairos of a book while others do. In this essay I will be uncovering the Kairos of three Books: Sailors to the End, MacBeth, and In the Heart of the Sea. The KAiros of book is the main turning point where the mood changes, or where the plot changes. Sailors to the End is a Book representing true heroic valor, it takes place on the U.S.S Forrestal when a fire consumes the ship claiming 134 sailors, and injuring another 161. The fire began when an electrical anomaly caused a Zuni Rocket to launch from a fighter jet, hitting John McCain’s plane while fueling. This is a major turning point because the crew’s attitudes change, and everyone now understands the risks of whaling. Although there are many reasons why this scene can be the Kairos, there is one incident that is more of a turning point than this one. A Moment of Terror Essay At the end of May, my family and I were faced with a moment of terror when my grandmother was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. To say I experienced a feeling of defeat is an understatement. I have never experienced seeing a family member suffer from cancer, and I could not imagine what it would be like seeing not only my grandmother, but also my best friend face something so difficult. I remember the phone call; I remember hearing her precious voice say, â€Å"Lauren, God is going to heal me; please do not shed one tear because we serve a healing God. At that moment, I knew God was going to heal my grandmother, and she would overcome this cancer she was diagnosed with. Faith, hope, love, and peace allowed my grandmother to have a positive outlook on her diagnosis, and I know she would have never overcome this cancer without the healing hand of God. Faith is typically defined as a complete trust or confidence in something or someone. This definition speaks clearly to me personally because I witnessed faith on a new level throughout these past couple months. My grandmother, age seventy-two, was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer about five months ago. I was defeated and torn apart because I questioned why bad things happen to good people. My grandmother did not deserve this; she did not deserve to suffer with cancer. If anything, I should have been the one suffering. I told her that I would give anything in this world to be able to take her place, and she laughed. She told me that God gave her this obstacle for a reason: to strengthen not only her, but also my entire family. She said that she had faith in knowing God had already healed her even before she started chemo treatments. Her faith stood out among our family. It was her faith that allowed us to see the light through this dark tunnel and moment of terror. I truly believe her faith in God was the reason she was healed. God knew the whole time what He was doing. He was just trying to prove a point, and show everyone how much of a healer He really is. The word â€Å"hope† is also another verb that means a lot to my family and me because we had a feeling of expectation and desire that my grandmother would soon be cancer-free. Not only did my grandmother have high hopes, but my family did as well. My grandmother’s attitude truly sparked the feeling of hope within my entire family. We started praying more because this diagnosis made us realize we had to make a change in our life. We realized God was trying to get our attention, and He did. God gave my family and me a wake-up call. I personally believe her diagnosis was a good thing, because I realized how special she truly was to me, and I did not need to take her for granted any longer. I felt as though she would always be here, on Earth, but facing this obstacle made me understand that her time is coming to an end. I should be calling or spending as much time with her as I possibly can because she is not promised tomorrow. Throughout my grandmother’s cancer diagnosis, I learned how much I value the word â€Å"love. † Love is a feeling of affection one has for another, and I have never felt more loved than when my grandmother was going through chemo. All of my family and friends were constantly calling and checking on my grandmother. Her determination to beat this cancer was constant and unfailing, and in September, she did. After my grandmother was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, I started putting forth more time in my Bible studies because I knew God was the only person who could heal her. The doctors told her she would only live two years if she took chemo and only one year if she did not. I remember the moment of terror, finding out my precious grandmother would be suffering with some horrific diagnosis she did not deserve at all. After I began reading my Bible every night and praying for God to heal her, I was overwhelmed with a sense of peace. I knew this peace was sent from God because He had it all under control. I felt as though my grandmother was healed and that everything was going to be okay. God was trying to tell me something, and I knew exactly what it was. He was trying to tell me that if I put my faith in Him then He would perform a miracle on my grandmother, and He did. I still remember the time and place when my grandmother called to tell me she was cancer free. I was so overwhelmed with joy that I could not even speak. All I could do was thank God for performing such an amazing miracle on my grandmother. I could not help but give Him all the glory because I knew she would have never gotten through this without God’s love and peace. Peace allowed me to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Even when I thought all hope was lost, God had a bigger plan. He knew she would have been an amazing angel in heaven, but He was fortunate enough to share her with us for a little longer. My life was changed forever when I received the devastating call from my grandmother, telling me she was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. At the time, all I could do was question God. I soon realized that what I thought was a curse only turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The devastating call, the dreadful visits to the cancer clinic for chemo, the talks about telling her goodbye, everything was all planned by God, the amazing healer. He knew exactly what He was doing, and my grandmother would have never gotten through cancer without faith, hope, love and peace. Four words that stand out among all. Each of these words has a special significance to my family and me because they helped us during a time in which all hope was lost but suddenly found. This test soon became her testimony. I truly believe this test was given to allow my family to grow together as one again. Family is the most important thing in life, and without family, I am nothing.

ICT also makes it possible to present digital content in various formats such as visual, audio, graphics and texts to meet the various needs of various people. This also reduces the amount of time that the students need to get proper content mastery. The digital integration of education makes learning easy for the disabled children because they can access information with less strain. E-learning plan Since teaching has been practiced for a long period of time, the balance between the student and the teacher changes as the student grows up. Therefore, the spread of knowledge through teaching requires the use of specialized skills such that not anyone who is not an expert can deliver the required content to impart knowledge. To achieve e-learning, the teachers need to be properly trained so that they can maximize the use of the ICT facilities at their disposal (Balta Duran, 2015). Each teacher should be provided ample time to the respective learning institution so that they can effectively understand the technical aspects and be able to pass the content to the children. The training on teachers should be carried out on the basis of the subject expertise (Cherner et al., 2014). The idea of teachers being replaced by technology should be wiped out and the teachers should learn to use the technology at disposal to enhance their teaching abilities. Interactive whiteboard Although the initial installation of an interactive whiteboard is quite expensive, it is widely used for ICT as a digital device which is attached to the laptop or tablet and can be easily moved according to the individual needs of the teachers to make learning easy. It serves the same purpose as a traditional blackboard (Mangano et al., 2014). The content on the interactive white boars can be erased and also be saved for further reading. Upon installation, the teacher then receives a thorough training to be able to use it well. The training should be conducted while the students are out for vacations so that it does not interfere with the normal school curriculum. It is also advisable that the e-learning program is introduced to the students at the start of a new academic session as opposed to the mid of a session. Audiovisual devices The rise in the use of audiovisual systems in e-learning has been contributed by the fact that these devices are now becoming more affordable. For instance, if a lecture is accompanied by a video clip, it becomes easier for a student to remember as opposed to the conventional lectures (De-Marcos et al., 2014). In this case, it would be effective to use the whiteboard as a teaching mode, visual learning is always beneficially having a good impact on the memory of a student. Social media At the present generation, the wide use of internet connection and social media has been a revolutionary occurrence. The social media has been important especially for the success of the social media in distance learning. An example of the social media apps includes the google plus and google hangouts in educational reasons. For instance, when seminars are held, people can be invited to join in from different parts of the world. In this case, one does not need to be physically present and can join through Skype or other media (Hirsh-Pasek et al., 2015). Google classroom There exist several free applications that the students and educators can use for learning. However, Google has brought about an exclusive application for teaching purposes. This saves time and cost for the students and teachers because the papers can be submitted with ease (Shaharanee et al., 2016). Using Google classroom, a student is able to work in an organized way by keeping the curriculum on track and submission of assignments. In this case, I would use google classroom technology to send notes and other study material among students and google classroom is the secure mode of learning as most of the information is online. Justification of my strategy This plan has been created in an effort to increase the confidence of students so that they can learn more and get an opportunity to understand the advances in technology. Therefore, the student will be able to interact freely with teachers and fellow students and get the necessary help. The strategic plan also designed to approach individual needs especially new concepts. As two students are not the same and have different learning capabilities (Juuti, 2016). The technological programs would attend individual need and increase the level of understanding among students. This strategic plan contains technological applications that offer interesting features that are ready to understand and use especially in the developing countries. Since they are designed to cater for each student, the learners have the basic knowledge for their uses. The ICT makes the students to develop high levels of confidence so that the teacher-student relationship can be strong enough (Surjono, 2014). These IC T technologies also make it easy for the teachers to interact with the students and mentor other fellow students. Conclusion The notable differences between animal's ad human beings are that humans have a conscious mind and hence the ability to learn and adopt changes. Since knowledge offers empowerment for a better life, the teachers are very important to humans from a small age to an old age. Technology has played a profound role in the ways and rates at which people learn. ICT has been of great importance to the education system globally although some people may argue that the traditional way is more effective, this is just but a subjective behavior because it depends on the prevailing conditions.
